SLOANE SISTERS – The Next Gossip Girl?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

We’ve both started reading the Sloane Sisters by Anna Carey and we’ve got to say that it’s definitely the next Gossip Girl. Not only does it focus around the wealth and privilege of our hometown of Manhattan and the Upper East Side, but it has a transatlantic vibe to it as well, ’cause it touches on the equally posh world of London.

The Sloane Sisters is kind of like an Upper East Side version of the Brady Bunch. Basically it starts out with two sisters, Cate and Andie; they live in Manhattan and live totally perfect lives until their father falls in love with a dashing former model, named Emma Childs, that lives in England. Their lives are turned upside down when their father marries Emma and they suddenly inherit two (equally posh) step-sisters. And, then, like with any good Upper East Side story, drama ensues!

We’ve just started reading Sloane Sisters so we don’t want to give away the entire plot, but here’s a quick overview of the main characters:

Cate Sloane is like the most popular girl in school. She’s pretty much the main character of the book and she is totally like a Blair Waldorf character. She rules the Upper East Side and she refuses to bow down to any one, especially a couple of foreign transplants.

Andie Sloane is Cate’s younger sister and she wants SO badly to be included in the posh and hawt world of her older sister. But, alas, she’s rejected and every attempt she makes to fit in she’s written off as a “Copy-Cate”. Andie is very much like Little J from Gossip Girl.

Stella Childs is the most popular girl in Britain, more influential than Kate Middleton, some believe. She’s been uprooted from the only world she knows and landed on the Upper East Side. Taking a queen away from her kingdom is neveer a good thing and we can only imagine Stella’s arrival will be troublesome for Cate, who is the reigning queen of Manhattan. Stella seems to be like Serena van der Woodsen.

Lola Childs is the awkward little sister of Stella and she spends a lot of time alone with her cat named Heathy. All Lola wants is attention but doesn’t get it in London, so she’s hoping her new home in America will afford her a new start. Lola is like Vanessa Abrams; she’s got a lot to offer but gets no respect.

Anyway, there’s a quick overview. We’re about halfway through the book, and it already has Super-Hawt written all over it.

You MUST check out the Sloane Sisters. You won’t regret it!
